Books
Catherine Labouré: Visionary
of the Miraculous Medal,
by René Laurentin: This book is the true story of St Catherine told
in novelized form. It is fun, and well-written, and really brings St
Catherine to life. I highly recommend it!
A Light
Shining on the Earth: The Message of the Miraculous Medal, purchased
at the Shrine: This is also a beautiful book. I’m sure the shrine
gift shop still has some. If not, ask them to order some for you!

Books
The Precious Pearl:
The Story of Saint Rita of Cascia,
by Michael Di Gregorio, OSA: This is, by far, the most authoritative
and historically correct book about the life of St. Rita of Cascia than
any others in the marketplace. As our show will uncover, for hundreds
of years, Catholics believed wrongly that St. Rita was an abused
wife. Father Michael eloquently explains why we now know this to be
untrue, and how it is we all came to such a misunderstanding about this
saint’s life. If you read any book about St. Rita, I highly recommend
you pick this one up first. I bought mine at the Shrine’s gift shop.
While there are many other
books about St. Rita, I can’t, in good conscience recommend any of
the others I’ve read, as all of them continue in the incorrect
telling of St. Rita as an abused wife. As we say on the show, even though
she wasn’t abused by her husband, St. Rita still overcame some impossible
things, so if this little bit of news about her life has you shaken—don’t
let it! She’s still an amazing saint!!
